Greentoes is going PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month! We’re proud to be partnering up with Susan G. Koman Southern Arizona.
For the entire month of October all customers that choose any shade of pink nail lacquer, for any of our manicures or pedicures, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, will prompt Greentoes to donate $5 to Susan G. Komen Southern Arizona.
The Susan G. Komen foundation was founded by the sister of Susan Goodman Komen, a woman who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1980 at the age of 36. Nancy Goodman Brinker, Susan’s younger sister, realized how underfunded breast cancer research was. Believing that informing more people of the dangers and prevalence of breast cancer would mobilize communities to unite in the desire for a cure.
Since the charity’s inception, it has raised more than $800 million dollars for the cause. Through its annual fundraising events like the Race for the Cure and independent donations, Susan G. Komen has become a leader in awareness, education, health screenings, and research for breast cancer. Susan G. Komen creates partnerships with big brands to co-raise money for the foundation, often in the months of September and October. Their iconic pink ribbon logo has become a symbol of hope for breast cancer fighters and their loved ones, and many people purchase Komen branded products to contribute to the foundation without additional expense.
Though breast cancer does not currently have a cure, contributions raised through organizations like Susan G. Komen have significantly improved outcomes for patients. Reminders for routine screenings help people catch breast cancer in its earliest stages, improving their prognosis. Education and research helps people avoid known carcinogens. The organization also provides treatment grants to help offset the costly medical bills of people living with breast cancer.
