What To Expect During Your First Brazilian Wax

Brazilian-wax

Brazilian waxes involve a very delicate part of the body and that makes a lot of people nervous if they’re interested in waxing but they haven’t experienced it before. There’s no reason to be nervous at Greentoes in Tucson. It does hurt a little bit, but it’s nothing you can’t handle. Researching the process beforehand will give you a better idea of what you’re signing up for. It’s not a big deal – we do these waxes all the time and we’re here to walk you through it.

Getting Ready For Your Wax

Brazilian-waxBefore you book your appointment, make sure your hair is long enough to wax. Very short hair is difficult to wax, so we recommend waiting until you have at least a quarter of an inch of hair growth. You’ll also want to dress comfortably. A lot of people prefer to wear dresses or skirts. They allow our waxing experts to do their job without leaving our guests feeling a little vulnerable on the table.

Some people find that they need a little bit of mental readiness to ease their nerves. If you’re feeling a little antsy before you come in, we suggest you practice your calming ritual. Some people like to meditate. Others prefer a calming herbal tea. There’s nothing to be scared of and you’ll quickly learn that once we get started.

What You Should Know

It’s not safe to wax skin that isn’t healthy. If you have any open sores (including razor burn) or a skin condition like psoriasis around the area, we need to wait until you’re all healed up before we can give you a Brazilian wax.

If you’re on your period, you don’t necessarily have to reschedule. Most of the time, a tampon works just fine. There’s no reason to feel self-conscious. Some women find that their skin is more sensitive during their period and prefer to wait until afterwards to get waxed. If sensitivity is a factor for you, you might want to consider that when you’re planning a waxing date.

Since a Brazilian wax is very up close and personal, some women feel a little better if they use feminine wipes to clean up the area or shower immediately beforehand. Your body is nothing to be ashamed of, but your peace of mind is also important.

Getting Waxed

This is the part of the process that most people have questions about. When we’re getting started, we’ll usually ask you to remove your underwear and position yourself with your feet together and your knees apart. We may need you to move around a little bit, particularly by moving your knees closer to your chest, in order to allow us to do a thorough job.

It doesn’t need to be awkward and quiet – your wax specialist is a pro and can get the job done while enjoying small talk with you. If you’d like to chat about work or the weather to keep the atmosphere light, feel free.

If this is your first wax, it probably will hurt a little. If you’ve never been waxed before, the bulb of the hair is significantly larger. With each continued wax, the process will be less and less uncomfortable. The bulb will get smaller and the hair will get finer with regular waxes, so every future wax will be a little easier.

If you’re curious about the sensation, you can purchase small wax strips at the drugstore and try one on your arm or your leg to get an idea of what it might feel like. It likely won’t hurt as bad as you’re imagining it will.

The Aftercare

Some people might experience ingrown hairs after waxing. The best way to prevent them is by regularly exfoliating the area. Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells sitting on the surface that may be affecting the hair follicles. If the surface is nice and smooth, the hair will be able to grow back easier.

If you need any aftercare products or have any questions about how you should care for the area, we’ll be able to help you out with that. A lot of people don’t know what questions they’ll have until after the service is done.

Your hair won’t grow back thicker and darker after it’s waxed – in fact, the opposite is true. If you keep up with regular waxing, hair will grow back thinner and sparser. The thicker and darker myth probably originated from mothers trying to convince their sons to shave their faces – it was certainly clever, but it’s simply not true.
